Diamonds Buying Guide

If you want to make your own unique diamond ring, the first important thing is to buy loose diamonds. Buying loose diamonds for the first time is a little confusing if you have no idea about its price-determining factors. In this article, we are going to discuss the factors that determine the price of any loose diamond.

Clarity of a diamond is the measure of imperfections such as dark spots, cracks, gas bubbles present in the diamond. High clarity diamonds are very rare to find. Even if the diamond looks clear to your naked eye, it may not be a flawless stone. The small imperfections which are barely visible to your naked eye have some great impacts on the cost of a loose diamond.

 Carat Weight

One of the important factors which determine the price of loose diamonds is its carat weight. Carat weight determines the size of the loose diamond you buy. Based on the size of loose diamonds the price may vary.

Diamond cut refers to the quality of a diamond’s angles, proportions, symmetry, finishing details, etc. These factors are the reasons behind the sparkling effect and shape of a diamond. GIA grades on the diamond cut are ideal, excellent, very good, good, fair and poor. An ideal cut is referred to as one with ideal angles, proportions, and symmetry. Buying an ideal or excellent cut diamond will surely cost you more than a poor cut diamond.

Color of the diamond refers to how colorless the diamond appears. Even the slight variation in diamond color affects the value of a diamond. If the diamond appears more colorless or white, then the diamond becomes more expensive. In GIA D to Z color grading, diamonds having grade D, E, or F are referred to as colorless diamonds.

The shape of a diamond has a good impact on the diamond’s price. Round cut diamonds are the most valuable diamonds than a cushion cut, princess cut, radiant cut, and asscher cut diamond. Also, round cut diamonds have higher market demands than other diamond shapes.

AGS or GIA Certification

Loose diamonds with AGS or GIA certification are very reliable. Diamonds which are certified by these two institutions gives you more confidence in purchasing them. Diamonds having AGS or GIA certifications will undergo various systematic and consistent ways of grading. Thus these diamonds will cost more value than diamonds which have no AGS or GIA certification.
